This is an under-construction multi-deck HO scale layout with a linear design mainline designed to flow through much of a basement. The layout theme is the Great Northern Railway from just east of Wenatchee (to include an eventual aluminum plant near Malaga) west over the Cascades to the Puget Sound in the mid-1960s. Approximately 260 feet of the 950 foot long mainline (in disconnected sections plus a temporarily connected loop) are in place, plus the 12-track upper level (Spokane division) staging yard and ¾ of Appleyard near Wenatchee. A small amount (about 35 feet) of the Wenatchee-Oroville branchline track (130 feet of mainline and three towns planned) is in place also. Lots of reefer cars (many still iced in the 60’s) shipped apples from fruit warehouses on this branch to Appleyard, where cars were re-iced and sent east and west over the mainline.
Only a small amount of scenery is built so far and a few structures, including a brewery complex in one town, are in place. Most of the level 2 and level 3 benchwork around the perimeter of the basement is in place. in the summer of 2025, work crews have helped build the raised floor and part of the mushroom-design benchwork in the middle of the main room, as well as some and lower level benchwork in other areas. Roll-out drawers have also been built to house much of the under-the-layout electronic components to help ease future construction and maintenance. Currently a paper mill area is being planned and built on level one.
There is more being built and I appreciate the help that friends have provided with this big project. I plan to schedule work sessions on BadgerRail in the future as we try to get this layout ready for group operation!
